Crystal Otis is one of those people. Crystal began her journey at Red Arrow Diner in 2014 managing the front of the house in our Manchester location before taking on her current role of Executive Assistant at Red Arrow’s Corporate Headquarters. Outside of the diner, Crystal’s dream was to become a mom. After months of hope, Crystal finally learned the wonderful news: she was expecting her first child. Unfortunately, she learned in her second trimester that she had a heart defect called cardiomyopathy. Essentially, Crystal’s heart muscle was failing, which also meant her pregnancy was at risk. After exhausting all possible options, doctors advised Crystal to end her pregnancy in order to save her life.
Because of the severity of her heart condition, Crystal is unable to have any future pregnancies. She and her husband decided to turn to in vitro fertilization (IVF) with a surrogate to make their dream of becoming parents come true. While IVF can be successful, the process is also very expensive.
